Dennis LAM (Hong Kong)

Prof. Lam is an accomplished academician, a dedicated eye surgeon and one of the key leaders in the field of ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific Region and beyond. He is the Immediate Past President of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO), the Editor-in-Chief of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology (APJO), and the President of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society (APVRS). He serves the Academy of the Asia-Pacific Professors of Ophthalmology (AAPPO), and the Asia-Pacific Myopia Society (APMS) in the capacity of their Secretary-General. Moreover, he is also a Fellow of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI), and a Council Member of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS).

He was the President & Organizing Committee Chairman of World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) 2008 in Hong Kong (with over 13,000 delegates from 102 countries attending). He was also the Associate Dean (External Affairs) of the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 2004-2009. After assisting the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, CUHK to become an internationally renowned eye institute during his term as Chairman for 13 years (1998–2011), Prof. Lam moved on to his private practice and established the C-MER Dennis Lam Eye Center (HK) & Hospital (Shenzhen).

Over the years, a number of awards have been bestowed to Dr. Lam, including: “Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Hong Kong” (1994), “Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World” (1995), “Young Leader of Hong Kong” (1998), “World Economic Forum’s Hundred Global Leader for Tomorrow” (2000), “Hong Kong Humanity Award” (2007), “ICO Golden Apple Award” (2011), “APAO Jose Rizal Medal” (2014), "APAO De Ocampo Lecture Award" (2003), one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Ophthalmologists in the World in 2014” by The Ophthalmologist, and the “Educator Award" of Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (2005).
