Dipika PATEL (New Zealand)

Dr Dipika Patel began her pre-clinical medical training at Cambridge University, obtaining a first class honours degree in Physiology, and went on to complete her clinical training at Oxford University. She became a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK) in 2001. Dipika joined the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Auckland, in 2003 for a three year clinical/research fellowship in cornea and anterior segment. During this time she successfully completed her PhD thesis, entitled 'in vivo confocal microscopy of the cornea in health and disease' and won the University of Auckland best doctoral thesis award. She is currently Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland where she continues to pursue her research interests which include anterior segment imaging and investigating potential therapeutic applications for corneal stem cells.
