Dong Feng CHEN (USA)

Dr. Dong Feng Chen is an associate professor at Schepens Eye Research Institute/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on the molecular pathways that control retinal stem cells and nerve regeneration in the adult central nervous system. Dr. Chen's goal is to apply this knowledge to the development of novel regenerative approaches for treating neural damage and diseases of the eye and brain.
Her laboratory was the first to demonstrate full-length optic nerve regeneration from the eye into the brain in postnatal mice via a mouse genetic technology and to report induction of retinal neuroregeneration from an endogenous source of stem cells in adult mice. These studies suggest the exciting possibility of reactivating dormant regenerative potential of the retina or neuronal fibers as a therapy for reversing blindness.
