Kohji NISHIDA (Japan)

Kohji Nishida is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine and his major fields of interests include ophthalmology, corneal transplantation and stem cell biology. Prof Nishida obtained his PhD and MD from Osaka University Medical School. He had started his career as a stuff surgeon in Ophthalmology at Osaka Koseinenkin Hospital and became an assistant professor in Ophthalmology at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in 1992. He used to be a research associate in neural stem cell biology and gene therapy in Professor Fred H. Gage's Lab of the Genetics Department of the Salk Institute in San Diego, the USA. He then became an assistant professor in Ophthalmology in Osaka University Medical School and was promoted to be associate Professor. Prof Nishida was the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science of Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine from 2006 - 2010. He then continued his career with Osaka University and became the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Osaka Graduate School of Medicine.
