Mingzhi ZHANG (China)

Prof. Mingzhi Zhang has been working in ophthalmology for 33 years. She specializes in cataract, glaucoma and optometry. She was one of the first ophthalmologists in China to perform phacoemulsification and refractive cataract surgery. Her research, such as combining surgery for glaucoma with cataract and building surgical treatment models, was well-received by the international ophthalmic community. Recently by combining basic research and clinical research, she has focused on mapping disease-causing genes of congenital cataract and susceptibility genes of glaucoma and high myopia. She has conducted two National Natural Science Foundation studies, five nationwide research projects, three international cross-sectional projects and three provincial research projects in recent years. She has published 140 papers, 71 of which are published in international peer-reviewed SCI journals.

She currently serves as an editorial board member of the Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology; Chinese Journal of Optometry, Ophthalmology and Visual Science; Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology; Chinese Journal of Practical Ophthalmology; and Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology. She is also an editor of the teaching material for ophthalmic higher education and deputy editor-in-chief of teaching materials for eye diseases in optometry higher education. She is a committee member of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society, an executive member of the Ophthalmologist Society of Chinese Doctoral Association, an executive member of the Ophthalmologic Society of China Medical Women's Association and deputy director of the Ophthalmology Society of Guangdong Medical Council and the Ophthalmologist Society of Guangdong Society.
