Peiquan ZHAO (China)

Dr. Peiquan Zhao is the Director of Ophthalmology Department, Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He is the Vice Chairman of the Ophthalmology & Vision Science Research Institute, and the head of ROP and Pediatric Eye Disease Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He is the current council member of APVRS, member of ICO Task Force on Diabetic Eye Care and international member of ASRS. He is also Board Member of Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS), and Vice Chief of Ophthalmology Group Shanghai Society of COS.

Dr. Zhao is an excellent vitreoretinal surgeon, especially in macular surgery. Dr. Zhao has devoted himself in the prevention of pediatric and adult blindness, especially in ROP screening and treatment. Zhao’s achievement and service to the treatment of pediatric retinal diseases, the Chinese Ophthalmology Society awarded him “TOP 10 achievements of Chinese Ophthalmology in recent five years (2009-2013)”.

He has published over 100 papers, including over 60 internationally peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Zhao holds 2 patents and has published 4 books and 6 video-books about vitreoretinal surgery. He has also been engaged in the establishment of the new DR guideline and the vitreoretinal surgery training course for ICO. He has won several awards, including Shanghai Scientific Award of Medicine Technology (2014, 2nd), Excellent Leader of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission (2015), APAO Distinguished Service Award (2016), State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (2016, 2nd) and Shanghai Leading Talent (2016).
