Philip POLKINGHORNE (New Zealand)

Philip J Polkinghorne is a retinal specialist in Auckland, New Zealand and is in full time medical practice dividing his time between Greenlane Clinical Center, Auckland Eye and the University of Auckland. He is responsible for the vitreo-retinal training fellowship at Auckland and is involved in teaching at a post- graduate, undergraduate level. His research is predominantly clinical and recent publications have been directed to the epidemiology of endophthalmitis, retinal detachment and epi-retinal membranes.

Philip has been a principal investigator for a number of drug trials evaluating outcomes for geographic atrophy, choroidal neovascularisation and diabetic macular oedema.

As a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist, Philip has held a number of educational posts including Chairman of the Basic Sciences, Chairman of Continuing Medical Education and currently serves on the committee evaluation foreign medical graduates seeking registration in either Australia or New Zealand.

Philip has been active in the Asia Pacific region and regular attends the APVRS meetings. Twelve months ago he was appointed as a Councillor to that organisation.
