Rajvardhan AZAD (India)

Prof. Rajvardhan Azad, MBBS, MD (Ophth.), FRCSed, FAMS, FICS, Professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of Vitreoretinal & ROP Services at Dr R.P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, is currently the Regional Secretary of Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and Secretary General of SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology. He is regarded and credited with shaping ophthalmic care and education in the Indian subcontinent. He was President of All India Ophthalmological Society and also Vitreo-Retinal Society of India. He is Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, National Academy of Medical Sciences and International College of Surgeons. He is also Consultant for WHO, Sight Savers India, ORBIS International and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He has major significant contribution in research in the field of ROP, Diabetic Retinopathy, AMD, Vascular Occlusion and other Retinal Diseases. He is Principal Investigators in more than 12 Multi Centre Global Clinical Trials and Chairman, Task Force and expert for Indian Council of Medical Research on various project related to retinal research.

He has more than 200 publications in peer reviewed Journals, Authored 8 Books and has contributed Chapters in over 50 Books and periodicals. He is on Editorial Board and Reviewer of Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Clinical & Experimental Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Ophthalmology World Journal of Eye Retina Vitreous, Acta Ophthalmologica and other periodicals. He has been honored with over 35 Awards and Orations. He has received awards by American Academy of Ophthalmology (Achievement Award), Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (De O'campo Oration for highest Academy Excellence in Asia Pacific Region) and All India Ophthalmological Society Dr P. Siva Reddy International Gold Medal and Dr C.N. Shroff Gold Medal for best retinal work in India besides felicitation like Life Time Achievement Award from many other societies.
