Rita S. SITORUS (Indonesia)

Dr. Rita S. Sitorus - currently a senior member, professor and senior researcher in pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Indonesia, Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta - is a pediatric ophthalmologist with special interests in childhood blindness, retinoblastoma, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and genetic eye diseases. She spent about five years in Germany, Japan and the Netherlands, undertaking fellowships in pediatric ophthalmology and performing research on clinical and molecular eye diseases while completing her PhD at Vrije University Medical Center, Amsterdam.

Her passion of contributing to the prevention of childhood blindness and retinoblastoma in Indonesia has encouraged her to publish remarkable articles in her field of interest, in addition to participating in the International Retinoblastoma Staging Working Group and establishing an ROP-related blindness prevention program and strategy in Indonesia and Asia. She is a member of the Council Board of the International Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Society and Global Advisory Council of WSPOS.

In 2013, she received an Achievement Award from the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. Her written work includes serving as an external reviewer for International Scientific Journal, the Cochrane Acute Respiratory Infections Group at University of Queensland and the Medical Journal of Indonesia.
