Tero KIVELA (Finland)

Tero Kivelä, MD, FEBO, has been professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Helsinki, Finland since 2004 and director of its Ocular Oncology Service since 1995. He has made an international career in ophthalmic pathology and ocular oncology.

His participation in various organizations is as follows: founding member of the European Ophthalmic Oncology Group since 1991 and a board member and Secretary General from 1996-2002; member of the European Ophthalmic Pathology Society since 1994; founding member of the International Society of Ocular Oncology and member of its board from 2002-2011, general secretary from 2009-2011 and international liaison since 2012; and member of the Ocular Oncology Task Force of the American Joint Committee on Cancer.

Dr. Kivelä has held memberships in several international organizations promoting education and research in ophthalmology: the European Association for Vision and Eye Research from 2001-2011, as president in 2006 and program secretary from 2007-2011; European Board of Ophthalmology from 2001-2008, with vice presidency from 2001-2004 and presidency from 2005-2006; International Council of Ophthalmology from 2007-2014; European Academy of Ophthalmology since 2006; and Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis since 2012.
