Timothy LAI (Hong Kong)

Dr. Timothy Lai is an associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also a visiting professor at Shantou University Medical College, China. His clinical and research interests lie in the management of macular diseases, particularly choroidal neovascularization, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy and central serous chorioretinopathy; visual electrophysiology; and genetics of retinal diseases.
Dr. Lai has published more than 140 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, co-authored and edited seven textbooks and delivered more than 50 invited lectures worldwide. He has received a number of awards including the Nakajima Award from the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Lai is a member of the Macula Society, the Retina Society and the American Society of Retinal Specialists.
Dr. Lai serves on the editorial boards of six ophthalmic journals, including Retina, Eye and Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. He is also editor-in-chief of the Hong Kong Journal of Ophthalmology, the regional secretary representing Hong Kong in APAO, scientific secretary of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society and an international council member representing China in the International Ocular Inflammation Society.
